 Katherine and me

My name is Ted. I'm 1/2 of this woodworking operation called DeadWood Renaissance.

Katherine is my creative inspiration. She gives me advice, guides me, and, probably most important, she lets me know, in the gentlest way possible, when my idea for a piece isn't necessarily what the piece wants to be. I love her dearly for all she is and all she has to offer.

My Dad was my woodworking inspiration. He created lamps and tables as a hobby. His creations were so inspiring, I finally (at the tender "young" age of 55, or so) decided to try to follow in his footsteps full-time. Only I chose to go beyond what my Dad created, and began making coat racks and coat trees, freeform sculptures, tables, floor and table lamps, and rustic fireplace mantels. I haven't been doing this very long, but this is truly one of the most enjoyable vocations I've ever had (I can finally appreciate now the gift my Dad was trying to instill in me so long ago of working in, and with, this kind of medium)! I marvel at the spirit I see in each and every piece I have the honor of working on as they go through their Renaissance into family heirloom quality works of art.

All the pieces shown on this page are my Dad's creations and are of twisted red cedar he gathered in Montana. The slab for the coffee table pictured at the bottom of the page is a "birds-eye" maple burl he received as a gift from a relative in Oregon.
